Dimly lit and playing tunes that make you want to go out dancing, the Shoreditch outpost of Patty and Bun is small and welcoming. Communal countertop seating adds to the relaxed vibe.
Super friendly service gets things off to a good start, and before we know it we’re sipping on a litre of beer and chomping on meltingly tender confit wings slathered in a rich BBQ sauce. Brisket nuggets should also get a mention - crisp on the outside, tender in the middle. The main event, the ‘Ari Gold’ Cheeseburger, arrives perfectly pink, the high quality meat’s the star of the show. Encased between a brioche bun and crammed with cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickled onions, ketchup and smokey P&B mayo, what we find is there’s too much sauce.
That age old question, would we return? To sample what looks like a mighty fine chicken burger (and more of those starters), yes, for a beef burger, probably not.
