Beer and Buns is a casual, laid-back Izakaya bar and restaurant, the sort of place that’s good to go with a group of pals. Featuring the most extensive range of Japanese craft beers in the UK, it’s worth going purely to sample a few of those - the knowledgeable staff can help with recommendations (or take out word for it and go for a Coedo sweet potato ‘Beniaka’ and a Hitachino Nest Classic Ale)
Whilst you’re there, some of the food is definitely worth sampling too. Chicken karaage signature hirata bun is well filled with crisp, most chicken and slaw, and a hunk of crumbed halloumi with harissa mayo encased between a bun is a thing of salty goodness. Do try the naked wings - these might not have any sauce, but they’re a joyous specimen of something simple done well - the vodka brined chicken just falls off the bone. On the negative side, Korean fries suffer from an overpowering, clawing sauce, and the soft shell crab bun is virtually tasteless.
Pile in with friends, sample a few Japanese beers, and share a selection.
