At the end of East London’s Broadway Market sits Tuyo, a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern small plate joint from an ex Salt Yard chef. There’s lots to love about it, from the foliage strewn interior and hexagon tiled tables, to the uber cool neon signage. We’re advised to order two to three plates per person - a harder task than you would expect, given we want to order everything on the menu!
Padron peppers sprinkled with coarse sea salt start the proceedings well - we don’t come across a super fiery one (1 in 10?!), luck of the draw. Must try are the full of flavour chicken churrasco croquetas, and the parrilla chorizo, deliciously charred and accompanied by chunky baba ganoush. Also excellent is the salt cod with black tiger prawns and garlic potato puree, and tender octopus with sweet pepperonata and cumin-spiced yoghurt. We don't think things can get much better, but then we have the poached saffron pear, a dreamy dessert where everything just works - crunch from the chocolate crumble, super light and nutty hazelnut mousse and a perfectly poached pear.
Finish with a Tuyo liqueur coffee. And then another.
