Neighbour lives up to its name - this is a local Kentish Town eatery, a Mediterranean-inspired all-day brasserie with exposed brick, wood and glass interiors. It replaces Joe’s Southern Kitchen, a restaurant that was never quite busy enough. Our friendly waiter takes our order, we’re here with a 50% off food offer (valid on a Wednesday with a booking).
The desserts are what shine here. Almond and orange tart is moist, with that unmistakable coarse texture from the almonds, albeit a little light on orange flavour. There’s a satisfying crack of sugar as we delve into our pistachio creme brûlée, revealing ever so smooth olive green custard beneath. A brief word on the other dishes: sub standard rib-eye doused in what appears to be melted cheese (billed as peppercorn sauce on the menu), and lamb shank in a meaty rich gravy, hearty but unremarkable.
Here is a stylish place, but with food that doesn’t quite live up to the decor.
