Landseer is our second choice on the night we visit - with a hankering for steak and chips, the Junction Tavern is our first stop, only to be told they’re out of bavette. Disaster! Off we trot to The Landseer, a recently refurbed pub just off Holloway Road. Candle-lit, cosy and inviting, we spot flat iron on the chalkboard menu and promptly order two at the bar. The menu also features the likes of piri piri spring chicken and spiced salmon with roasted cauliflower, plus there’s a selection of pizzas and bar snacks and a decent wine list.
Is our hankering satisfied? Slight uneven cooking of the steak aside (parts are medium and not medium-rare as requested), we clear our plates in no time - juicy, thickly cut pieces of beef accompanied by herby salsa verde and Lyonnaise potatoes. Do we need the side of patatas bravas? Probably not, but they’re crisp and delicious and we wolf them down too.
Junction Tavern, let’s see what you got.
