Visiting Beef and Brew during its soft launch in 2015, an average experience led to dismissal. Giving the spot a second chance on a recent Sunday evening visit, an excellent meal followed, and we felt pangs of regret that we hadn’t given it second chance sooner.
Warm and inviting, this is an intimate yet casual spot, with super friendly service. White rectangular tiles on the walls create clean cut lines, and give the place an industrial-chic atmosphere. The main event? Beef, at very reasonable prices. Brisket jam nuggets are unmissable as a starter, tasty morsels packed with unctuous meat. For main, be sure to go for the sea salt topped onglet, juicy and mouth-meltingly tender, and excellent value. Opt for the fries, chunky chips arrive as pale wedges. Other successes include the pink and plentiful rump roast, served with a Yorkshire pudding the size of your head, a full of flavour burger, oozing béarnaise, and the rare beef salad, with a delicious textural crunch from the caramelised walnuts.
Market restaurant on Parkway, Camden used to be a North London go-to for onglet, it was a sad day when it closed its doors. We were too quick to dismiss this warm and friendly local, Beef and Brew provides a seriously good alternative.
